Workplace English Proficiency

A 10-module, 70-unit applied course that develops written, spoken, interpersonal, digital, global, and leadership communication for real corporate work. Learners produce a portfolio of decision briefs, meeting systems, stakeholder briefings, and a 30/60/90-day transfer plan

The course moves from professional foundations to written communication, meetings, presentations, client work, global collaboration, negotiation, digital and responsible artificial intelligence practice, leadership communication, and an integrated capstone. It does not assume that the strongest communicator is the most native-like speaker. Instead, it evaluates whether communication is intelligible, accurate enough for its purpose, ethically calibrated, inclusive, accessible, and useful to a receiver. Learners work with email, reports, data, agendas, action logs, service recovery, difficult conversations, hybrid meetings, client explanations, AI-assisted drafts, privacy decisions, performance feedback, and change messages. The package is deliberately usable by an internal learning team. Facilitators can teach the units in sequence, select a pathway for a role or risk area, or use the portfolio and assessment instruments for blended learning. Examples are written to be adapted. Replace currencies, policies, systems, and job titles with local equivalents while preserving the communication problem and the evidence standard.

What You Will Learn In This Course

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
1 Design workplace messages around a receiver, purpose, decision, action, evidence, deadline, and authority boundary.
2 Use tone, register, grammar, vocabulary, and plain language to preserve clarity, dignity, and operational meaning.
3 Write actionable emails, requests, progress reports, difficult-news messages, decision briefs, reports, and controlled records.
4 Plan and facilitate meetings with explicit purpose, inclusive participation, decision rules, action owners, and follow-up.
5 Deliver structured presentations and executive briefings with accessible visuals, calibrated data claims, and credible Q&A.
6 Discover customer needs, explain technical work, recover service, handle complaints, negotiate scope, and protect commitments.
7 Communicate across culture, language, hierarchy, time zones, identity, and processing preferences without stereotyping.
8 Diagnose disagreement and conflict, use objective criteria, influence without authority, set boundaries, and escalate safety or governance concerns.
9 Select appropriate digital channels and apply responsible AI, privacy, cybersecurity, accessibility, and knowledge-management practices.
10 Lead expectations, coaching, feedback, delegation, change, recognition, and performance conversations fairly.
